Abstract:It has been 30 years since the implement of the reform and opening up policy in China. With the improvement of living standard, people care more about the quality of their life, therefore, the past 30 years is a crucial period for the development of tourism industry, tourism discipline and tourism planning in China. This paper analyzes the history of tourism development in China from 3 aspects including tourism transformation and upgrading, independent innovation of tourism theories as well as evolution of tourism planning. In other words, the development of tourism in China is a transformation from the fast-food-style to consumptive leisure tourism which is a process of establishment and professionalization of tourism discipline as well as an exploration of standardization and marketization of tourism planning. Tourism grows more mature and systematic gradually. Some big events play important roles in the development of domestic tourism industry, tourism discipline and tourism planning. Casting light on these events and deeply analyzing them, the authors find that their functions in the process of China's reform and opening up of these 30 years are of practical significance for the implementation of the strategy of reinvigorating China through tourism development. This paper divides the past 30 years into 3 stages with 10 years for every stage, after summarizing the track of tourism development. The authors find that the exploration of tourism discipline and the process of linking theory with practice in tourism research field have experienced 3 times of evolvement. Furthermore, the authors review the tourism events and status under certain historical backgrounds in order to analyze tourism development process in China and try to find the law of tourism evolution. In 2008, the financial crisis challenges the economic development pattern of China, which triggers doubts of the nation's plan of tourism. However, it is a good chance to reflect the development, and rethink the innovation of tourism industry. The authors also suggest that the government should cultivate inter-disciplinary talents for tourism industry, and train professionals with innovation ability in order to supply the tourism industry of China with science spirit, human resource and development strategies.
